Long story short, I tried to attach a passkey and apparently failed, now I keep getting E65's and nothing I do seems to help, not even removing the chip. There IS some flux still on the board though, think that could be the culprit?

Anyway, what are my options now? I think I read somewhere that you can detach the flash chip (?) attach it to a TSOP programmer, dump the firmware and use another drive in it. Is that possible?

You could try using a Willem programmer for the TSOP chip,but try out some other solutions before jumping the gun like SL7Rips said.I don't want to see you pay alot of money for a programmer,because it might not even be the drive.It could be the installation of the modchip.I was wondering did you use the header kit with the 79Passkey or did you try to wire the pads that are leading to the TSOP chip.
