I use DVD Decrypter with changed settings so that the feature is in one large .VOB file when I backup.

I understand that I need more than just that file to burn a DVD for a standalone player. I'm comfortable using any freeware tool, although DVD Shrink sounds like the best option.

I only have the menu and feature in .VOB - How can I burn a DVD with these?

It sounds like you got Movie only. DVDShrink should do it.

Perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way...

In DVD Shrink I select "Open Files" and find my folder with the VOB files and get this error pop up:

Put your original settings back in Decrypter and rip it again.

I understand that concept, but I don't want to. I like having just two files to deal with; a movie and menu. I usually watch them on my computer but sometimes I'd like to burn a DVD for a weekend on vacation or something.

That's why I asked, is there anyway I can put these VOB files on a DVD?

Your original question is:
I only have the menu and feature in .VOB - How can I burn a DVD with these?
You can't. You can use RipIt4Me or some other softwares out there to rip Menu and Movie only but you will have a few files in that folder. That folder can then be burned with ImgBurn.

This doesn't quite make sense... I use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD why do I need RipIt4Me? I understand I need an .IFO file and some others to burn an operable DVD, can't I just 'extract' them from my already compiled .VOB file?

You want the movie and menu?
DVD Decrypter does full disc or main movie.

main movie only use dvd flick a free app... drop just the vob in/set burn options/set pal or ntsc/load dvdr to drive/click create.

not sure why you would need a menu if you only have a main movie? drop disc in player and it auto starts no menu.

also dvd flick can make its own menu for your movie/vob, if you really want one.

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Like Rotary say, if you have a movie only and menu, all other text in menu is useless, buttons will not work either since connection is lost.
If you want to author DVD from your VOB file try Mpeg Video Wizard DVD, it is quite flexible software for Mpeg2 files and you can make your own menu, or import one you have.

Much thanks to Rotary and Suba.

Two last questions..

- I understand that a menu would be useless if I only have a feature movie linked to it but I'd still like to have the menu, can I still load that .VOB?

-I drag and dropped the VOB files into DVD Flick and change the settings appropriately but when I click "Create DVD" the program just exits out. Am I doing something wrong?

I do not use DVD Flick so I cannot help you there, but if that program does not work for you, than try DVD Lab. That one let you import VOB and you can create a button around your menu text and than connect it to where you want to go.
Basically create your own DVD. You can even setup menus with chapters.

Ok, menu isnt a big deal I can always toy with that later. The VOB file is fairly small for full movie in total it is 3.11GB. The memory bar on the left said I was only using 74% of the DVDs capacity so that doesn't make sense.

Ok I think I understand my mistakes. I set the output location to my DVD drive, thinking it would just burn the disc. So I fixe that and it is currently writing to my hard drive. From there what do I select in ImgBurn?

Thanks again.

This was a strange one!
You start out with a DVD, why get all the way to using DVD Flick, it makes absolutely no sense. Not to me whatsoever.

Haha well I assume my case to be a rare one so here's the gist for the confused...

Recently I started backing up my DVD collection and I'm fond of watching the .VOB files on my computer with PowerDVD. So instead of hassling with all these mini-files and folders I set my DVD Decrypter to extract everything into two files; menu and feature. I just wanted to know how I could burn a DVD for standalone player use without re-ripping my entire collection. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks again to Rotary and his patience.

Okay, so you already have the files ripped on your PC, and now you might want to burn a disc, but don't want to re-rip. Okay, now makes sense.
DVD Flick does not keep the original menu, but can create a new one.

I hope you set DVD Flick not to re-encode the video(it has this option if the video file you use is in DVD compliant format). If you re-encode, you have quality loss.

Yeah I don't care about the original menu, any menu is still a menu.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!
