I currently use dvd decrypter 4 and DVD Shrink 3.2 for ripping and shrinking movies. My writing hardware is TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H on a dell PC. My burning software is Roxio Media Creator delivered with my dell PC and the discs are Imation DVD +R.
I burnt many discs at 4X okay with no problem on playback on my multi region standalone Toshiba SD 330 ESB DVD player. Recently all burnt discs are breaking up at the same point on each DVD.
They play okay on the PC . I then used Nero to burn the discs but encountered the same problem. The first 35 discs on a box of 50 were fine playing both on standalone and on PC. Can anyone offer any advice?

If you are using cheap media that may cause problems. Set the maximum output on Shrink to 4435 if the media is cheap, and to 4450 if you are using quality media.
If your media is 8x then normally 4x is what you want to burn at. However, maybe you need to slow down the burn speed to see if you will get better quality out of the media.
I would not use Roxio to burn backups. I would suggest a free burner called ImgBurn. You may download it here: http://www.imgburn.com/
Nero should not have given you a problem with the burn. What is the version of Nero that you are using? Maybe you need an update.
The last thing that I can think of is that your DVD drive may need a firmware update. This site may help with that. http://backfire.rpc1.org/tsstcorp/index.php?path=TS-L632H/
Quality media is Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, and a couple of others that I do not use. I burn only on TY's that are made in Japan. There are a few places to buy them from, but I buy mine from supermediastore.com
I hope that helps!
P.S. Your computer will almost always play the disk fine. Try ImgBurn and see if it helps. When using Shrink save the file in a VIDEO_TS folder, then from ImgBurn use the build feature. They have changed their menu now. It says: Write Files/Folders to Disk This is what we use to do to create the image file before burning.

When I try to use image burn it hangs on the burn process as it tries to detect the book type. I can't get any further than this. Is there a solution?

You could have just burned the iso image using good old dvd decrypter. In the menu select 'mode' 'ISO' 'Write'.
Select the 'source' by browsing to the iso image and selecting it.
Put your blank disc in the drive and set the burn speed to half the speed your blank discs say on the packaging. On cheaper media you could try 2x.
I agree Taiyo Yuden (Made in Japan) are by far the best media in my experience along with Verbatim.
Also something else worth a mention is that some standalone dvd players have their own media preferences. Some players much prefer DVD-R and others prefer DVD+R although I have found that DVD-R in most cases is the preference.
Book type can be set to DVD-ROM for better compatibility with players when using DVD+R/+RW/+R DL blank media (if it is supported by your burner and your software).
DVD Decrypter can change the book type if your burner is supported, try going into 'Tools' 'Drive' 'Change Book Type...' in the dvd decrypter menu and see if your burner is supported. Some reading on the subject here:
http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
As suggested by syxguns a firmware update would be a good move but be careful, if you get the wrong update or a bad flash you could permanently knacker your burner.
Also dvd decrypter is no longer updated and the copy protection put on discs these days is beyond the development of DVD Decrypter. You might want to try dvd Fab HD Decrypter to rip your discs then shrink if necessary and burn with DVD Decrypter. Alternatively you could also opt for AnyDVD although it is not free.
You can find DVD Fab Decrypter here (free) :
http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
You have to keep it up to date as there are regular updates.
Shout up again if you don't get anywhere with this.
I hope this helps you further!

Hi
Thnaks for the info.
Sorry about the confusion I already use the free version of dvd fab dvd decypter. The write option asks me to use dvd fab platinum.
Would I have to purchase this to have the write facility for decrypter?

Hi
I've checked the DMA and its okay. I've reduced the maximum output to the discs I already have(Imation) and then use the Verbatim discs I have on order burning with the latest Nero verion.
I'll let you know if the breaking up/sticking problem on playback on the standalone clears up.
Cheers

Hopefully everything will be just fine, but save the Nero log just in case. Then you may post it here if there is still a problem. I hope everything works for you!

Here's hoping that you find it to be a simple media issue but if not as syxguns said please do come back and we'll try our best to resolve this.
Cheers!

Hi,
Thanls for all your help. Unfortunately still getting the sticking discs when playing back on standalone. I'm still using DVD FAB Decrypter and DVD shrink (latest versions) and a trial copy of the latest nero(which runs out soon) burning to Verbatim +RW at 4X.
I actually use a PC a work for all this. Could there be a problem with other applications running at the same time when ripping/shrinking/burning/I have posted the Nero log as suggested for a disc I burnt which stuck twice on playback. See below
Cheers

Duncan37-
Go ahead and edit your post and remove all of the serial # for your Nero.

Yes, running other programs while trying to burn or transcode a DVD will cause errors. Here is a link from softpedia that will explain the proper way to burn a DVD. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Burn-Your-DVD-s-Right-19535.shtml
The fact that you are using a computer at work and running multiple processes may very well be the reason for the drag in the playback of the DVD.

Thanks
Can running other applications cause the same problems when using DVD Fab Decrypter and DVD Shrink or is it only when burning I should switch off other applications.

Usually ripping a disk is not a problem if you have other application running, but I have 3 computers so I'm never on the one that is working on a DVD in any stage. However, DVD Shrink is very processor sensitive and uses memory when it is in the process of transcoding a DVD. Burning is another place where the processor and memory are used. Basically if you are running other applications in the process of running Shrink or Nero then you are bound to have some problems.
What I use:
AnyDVD
DVDReMake Pro
DVD-RB
ImgBurn
I get perfect backups, but if you notice my software is all paid for with the exception of ImgBurn. I use to use Shrink and Nero, but decided that I wanted to encode my DVD's instead of transcoding them. I use CCE for my encoder.
