i recently played a ps1 disk in my ps2 for the first time. since then it will only read ps1 disks. did something get messed up in the settings or is it just a coinsidence. any one got any info

Try a hardware reset.. press and hold the power switch until the red light comes on.. then tap it so the light goes off and then tap it again to turn on and off again as soon as it lights up.. do this 3 times and try a ps2 disk again.

Maybe the dvd half of your laser just died... they do die all of a sudden, especially on the later versions..
