I have been trying to simply capture video from my old and new minidv camcorder tapes to my computer, using Windows Movie Maker and one other program called STOIK Capturer.
Unfortunately, both pretty much suck atrociously!
For instance, for a mere 15 minutes of video captured from my minidv tape right now, stoik is still "processing saved buffers on the harddrive" after nearly one hour so far as I write this! Crazy slow!
Microsoft Windows Movie Maker is pretty close in terms of suckage. Freezes, slows down to nearly same ultra slow processing for simple video. My harddrive on main computer has several gigabytes free, and my external harddrive has over 130 gigabytes of free space. Ive tried capturing video to both main and external harddrives but doesnt seem to change the speed noticably.?
Can anyone recommend any free ( I am unwilling and financially unable to afford to shell out more money for more programs which should have worked to begin with. ), good quality and fast video capture software programs for use with Windows XP to capture from minidv video cameras?

The problem isn't the software. The problem is your computer. If you only have a small amount of space on your internal drive, your best bet is to get the largest internal drive that you can afford.
Capturing to an external drive is hit and miss. With a large internal drive, you can capture to it, and if necessary, transfer the captured file to the external drive for safe keeping.
But I have more than a small amount of space on my main harddrive. I have almost 1.5 gigabytes free on main computer. Certainly larger than any file should be from the short video i am trying to capture.
How would that make the software take so incredibly long simply to capture it to the harddrive? It seems it would just either capture it if theres enough space, or it would not if there is not enough space.? Rather than laggging for soo long to finally capture it.?
