use better media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim
cmc mag is at the bottom quality wise!

Zoso is right on.
Use better blank media. Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony. You'd be amazed at how many burn and playback problems are solved by upgrading to good media.

thank you for your advice. I have burned about 100 DVDs so far without finding a problem with this media. Would it just start all of a sudden?
I'll try to burn a little smaller this time and tell you the results. PS I do have some Philips DVD+R double layer. Would that make a difference?

Definitely slow her down to 8x max. Myself,I'd burn cmags at 4x. Better media like verbatim/taiyo yuden, then you can raise the burn speed to 8x and over.

What brand name is your media?
Did you switch spindles during that 100 batch?
When you switch spindles, sometimes you'll switch manufacturers and don't even realize. Example. Memorex +16x was using Ricohjpn-R03-00 as their manufacturer for well over a year. I had great results with them. Last batch, the same Memorex +16x turned out to be made by MBI and not very good. Playback issues, burn coasters, and I had to drop my burn speed to 4x. My benq 1650 hated them, but my Benq 1620 handles them ok at the slow speed. The same can happen with TDK,Maxell,Fuji,HP,Philips,Store brand name media like staple's,and most major brands of media.Maxell uses some Cmag-M01 and Ritek. Switch spindle, chances are high you switched manufacturers. Media quality will vary between them.

Didn't switch spindles still in the middle of my 100 pack of Memorex. The error comes and goes, probably expensive media is a bargain in the long run?

Quote: I have burned about 100 DVDs so far without finding a problem with this media. Would it just start all of a sudden?
Yes.
Not all media is created equal, just because you may or may not of been using the same brand, it doesn't mean that there's any kind of consistancy associated with the disks (good or bad), especially when media can be labeled using the same name but made at a different location where the process used may be different as well as the materials/chemicals.
Stick to the media suggested (look for made in Japan if possible), don't use max speed (max is usually the default setting, stick to 1/2 the rated speed of the media), reduce the target size a bit to keep away form the disks outer edge and you should be ok.

i buy Taiyo Yuden online and last time i bought media they were 21 cents each. I bet you payed more for the memorex? and the Taiyo Yuden is the best blank media you can buy

CMCMag-M01: That's one of the 3 different manufacturers for Memorex +16x including: MBIpg-101 and Ricohjpn-R03-00.There may be more manufacturers?
I paid 20-25 cents apiece when on sale for the Memorex ricoh and MBI's. The Office Depot +16x Ricohjpn-R03's run as low as 18-23 cents each when on sale. The ricohs are decent, but I wouldn't max out the burn on them. 8x is sufficient, but 4x yeilds the better scans.
BTW: Staple's has sony on sale starting tomorrow. 100 pks for $23 or 50 pks for $15. Sony is also some decent media, but I don't burn them fast either.
If you desire to burn fast, then step up to Verbatim or Taiyo yuden. They were designed to be burned faster, unlike majority of the 16x media out there.
