is there any way you can tell whether a file will have VBR or CBR from the codecs before you download them? because no matter what I do I can't seem to get the audio right with VBR when i'm coverting them to VCD. This is really starting to bug me now as most of the avi files i've downloaded recently all have VBR arghh!!!

Unless it says so on the filename which it wont, or the nfo which it might then no way to tell. But you can always fix vbr problems

i've tried lots of different ways from threads on this forum and digital-digest, and none of them seem to work. I download from eMule and they tell you what codec the film uses, so can you tell which codecs use vbr? or do you know?

help me! mwhee!!

vbr is not a codec but rather a technique by which audio is encoded. You are probably familar with CBR (constant bitrate) where every 'piece' of audio data is compressed using the same bitrate (i.e, 192Kbit/s). With VBR, sound that is not as complex uses lower bitrates while really full range sounds use higher bitrates to maximize quality.

No you cant tell from the codec. Sometimes you can tell from teh filename. VirtualDubMOD can help fix that stuff.
