I installed the D2CKey with FlexPCB. I got a little solder stuck between the IC legs of the D2C, and spent a little while trying to remove it. Admittedly, I haven't soldered anything quite that small yet, but I have been soldering for a few years. I eventually did remove the solder, but I think the heat I used in the process may have destroyed the D2C. Anyway, the Wii boots fine with and without the D2CKey installed, but the DVD drive won't even accept a disc (Yes, I desoldered everything and checked for shorts with a multimeter). Normally, when you push it in, it "accepts" it? Well, it just feels like the Wii is turned off. Anyway, my question is if you think I killed my drive. If so, is there anywhere I can buy just the D2C IC? Or must I buy a replacement drive? Finally, I don't think I'll be using the FlexPCB to install it again if I can get the drive to work, because it seems to like to cause shorts because it's not entirely aligned with the legs. I hear the wire install is harder, but I'm not so sure anymore, with the fact that you can see the wires and all. Thanks for your assistance.

hello mate, i had that with 1 of the installs i did, but i went around the chip with some thin solder making sure all the pins where connected to the pcb, i then went inbetween each leg with a scalpel blade to ensure there was no short(even though i couldnt see one with a magnifying glass). After that my drive came back to life, so installed the chip again and all was good

I tried resoldering the legs to the board, and using an exacto knife to remove any shorts, but it didn't work. I also tested that fuse that's supposed to be the cause of a dead drive, but it's fine. Is it possible that I either separated the pads from the PCB because of the heat, or that I killed the D2C chip because of too much heat? Would it be worth it to try to solder the legs to board leads with thin wire, in case they are not connected?
