Does anyone know of a video utility that can test a file for DivX DVD Player compatibility before being burn to a Data DVD?

It's a real pain in the neck burning files to a data DVD and some play and some won't. Some have sound and some do not and some show the video and some don't. The files are from many different sources including Limewire, Bearflix Veoh TV and Torrent files. Some have to be converted from WMV, Quicktime or FLV formats to MPG or AVI.

With this utility I could run the file through it and know if it will play on most Divx DVD Players or not before burning.

Also does any one know exactly which encoding options are the most DVD Player Compatible?
Does anyone know where I can get a firmware upgrade for a Philips 642 unit. It doesn't play any AVI files and even many mpg files. It's almost useless as far as DivX playback.

Thank You

Generally if the file has been compressed with DivX or XviD and the video resolution and audio are acceptable to your particular DivX players specifications - it should play.
You can use 'GSpot' to check the video and audio codec that were used along with the resoulution.

Drag the file onto GSpot.
This example shows that the video uses the DivX codec.
The frame size is 720x400 (my recorder specifies a maximum of 720x576)
The audio is mp2.
I know that my player accepts mp2 audio and that the frame size is within specs.

Thank you for the very helpful advice.
I have used GSpot to check files that don't play either on my computer or on the Divx player. I wish there was a way to batch check a lot of files for compatibility at the same time.
