3.10 is older than 3.40 OE-A. I have never used an OE firmware (as i have a slim), but personally i feel that the newer (M33) firmwares are much improved on the OE versions. I use 3.71 M33-4, and have never had any problems. I can play all the newest games, run homebrew smoothly and play just about any PS1 game straight away (without installing POPSLOADER).
Personally id recommend moving to either 3.71 M33-4, or 3.80 M33-5, which you can do using THIS guide if you are already on 3.40 OE.

As you have a fat, you should be able to install the recovery folder which would take you back to 1.50 if you wanted.

Go HERE and download this recovery folder. Extract it and then go into Recovery menu. Toggle the USB and place the RECOVERY folder in the /PSP/GAME folder.
Then go to "RUN PROGRAM AT /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP"
That comes from THIS thread about how to recover a semi-bricked 3.71 M33.
