Not sure if this has been addressed before but has anyone tried to take advantage of the 1000 cable connectivity that the PS3 supports? I plan on getting a gaming router that has 1000tbase ports, but also wondering if the ISP needs to do something on their side so this connection speed will be available.

Or will the router itself do all that for you?............

I just ran a gigabit connection in my house(internal network only) between my PC and the PS3. You will need a gig card for your PC and the router will also have to be gigabit. Your wires should be cat5E or Cat6. I tested my connection first with 100 line and was taking 15 mins per gig to copy from PC to PS3. After I upgraded it to the 1000 it takes about 2 min 20 seconds per gig to transfer.

Didnt dawn on me that I had to use a different type of network cable. But thanks......... as long as I dont have to call my ISP and let them know I want to use a 1000tb connection. I will be geting my gaming router in the near future.

The gigabit connection isn't going to make a difference, your Internet speed is never going to get even close to breaking the normal 100mbps capacity of any plain jane network card; the fastest FiOS connection you can get is only 50mbps which it in itself is extremely excessive for gaming, a 2mbps connection is usually more than enough for lag free gaming. It's only meant to be used for LAN file transferring or servers.

The gaming router on the other hand will make a good difference in online play, just make sure it has a QoS engine.
