Pikaone DVD rewriter - mixed results

Hi,
I just bought a Pikaone external 4x DVD re-writer from PC world, and I am getting some good DVDs and some blocky DVDs. Some DVDs that resulting blocky pictures in my samsunf e235d and fine in my samsung s224. I have been using Panasonic DVD-R, I tried PC-Line DVD-R but these ended up being coasters, I have also tried imation DVD+R and Packard Bell DVD+R but these sometimes don't play in different players.

What brand of DVD would be recommended for backing up my DVD in the UK, and recommend suppliers?

I have absolutely no idea who makes Pikaone burners! From what you wrote it seems that your Samsung E235D may not like DVDR's which is not uncommon among standalone players. Some just have trouble playing burned discs.

As far as media I would recommend trying Ritek G04 -R media. The -R format is alleged to have better compatability among standalones and Ritek is a top manufacturer. There is a thread floating around here that deals with getting Riteks in the U.K. although I haven't checked it out because I live in Arizona. I'll see if I can find it for you.
