I've been creating backups of games I have, but I'm wondering if it's safe to get them elsewhere now.

Downloading is never safe and it never will be. If you don't make your own backups, that's just asking for trouble.

if u do then XDVDMulleter will be your best friend ...

download ur backup
open XDVDMulleter and check the iso for stealth and any other security patches
burn ur backup

i kept a system in my car, sometimes when u hit a bump it jostles the system and may get a scratch or two - or the kids leave them on the floor n stuff ...so i jus download and burn backups for it (dont have the patients to rip my own ...
