I just recently bought a Philips DVDR75, I already own a Wharfedale 750s, hacked to be region free. The plan was to use DVD+RW's to make initial recordings on and then copy those to DVD+R's when I was happy with the results, mainly from camcorder stuff. I just tried this, but my Wharfedale won't play back the +RW's I've recorded on. All I get is a 'NO DISC' message. Same goes for the DVD ROM drive on my PC. I have no idea what brand it is, it seems to be a generic one, but it does play finalised +R's OK made on my DVDR75, but not the +RW's which are meant to be compatible. +RW discs I've used are Philips and Verbatim ones. Any suggestions, other than buying a new DVD player?

You have to check the file format you are using. Camcorder recordings copied straight to a dvd won't play in a dvd player. Go to the forum start page, and check out the section on AVI to dvdr. This may help you get started. I think the files you are using need to be converted first.

I recorded the camcorder footage on my DVDR75, through the firewire connection, I have a Canon MV600i. The recorded DVD+RW's play fine in my PC's DVD+RW drive, but it's my DVD player, a Wharfedale 750s and the DVD ROM drive on my PC that they won't play on, which is what I want them to play on, so I can edit the footage onto a +R disc.

A pc burner will almost play anything. Its the dvd players that need the proper format and files to play properly. They Look for these 2 files to start. AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. If they are not there, the player won't play the disc. Check the forum I mentioned.

I did check the forum, but the problem is that although Philips claim +RW discs recorded on the DVDR75 will play back in any DVD player, mine do not, I have tested this with recordings made off air as well as from my camcorder. I need to know if this is a fault with my DVDR75 or if my Wharfedale is just too old to be able to play or recognise +RW discs, in the same way that old CD players cannot recognise CD-RW's. My DVD burner on my PC is also a Philips DVD+RW drive, but the ROM drive is not. +R finalised recordings do play back on both the Wharfedale and the PC drive, but it's recordings made on +RW discs that do not.
