Hi Guys,
Wella bit of a story ..

Ive an MS25 i flashed way back with xtreme 3.3 i think it was then i updated a few times until about 5.3 i think or 5.2 but after a while all the drive would play was origionals just wont read a back up...

So I try to reflash and I think im getting stuck with a firmguard?

The kids were online at the time on live ? I also wondered if MS could have done summat?

Anyway I ordered a new MS25 drive and it came and i just flashed it and its running no problems, I had no worrys with sittng counting 10 seconds and mtkflsah nightmares it just worked and is now in the XBox and the kids r well pleased..

So im left with the old origional drive again, Im sure it was exterem 5.2 or 3 i flashed it with?

I have tried to use the 0800 disc to disable the firmguard... no joy.. I have tried mtkflash and sat at the menu and counted to different amounts and still cant flash?

Am I doing summat wrong? I think from what ive read it will read as an MS 28 even though its an ms25 because if the FW i put in?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Could the drive be bricked even though it will play origionalsand movies?

Thanks again for any thoughts.

that drive just need a new laser in it.

replace the laser and it will play your backups again.

don't know mate about why it won't reflash,
but if its had a hammering reading back ups, it will struggle to read a back up as the dye is not as stong in the discs as it is in originals and so if your lasers worn it won't read em.

My friend was having the same problem as you and we changed the laser , works fine now.

can't help with the reflash though sorry.

have you tried flashing your ms25 as you would an ms28.?

Once you have flashed an ms25, to reflash you have to do the 10 second trick as you would an ms28.

Maybe you already know this but didn,t mention it.

i think i have bricked my friends hitachi 59.

put it in mode b, flashed firmware, checked firmware in fw toolbox....
no probllems.....

put drive back in and it won't read anything.

ive put a thread up but nobody has replied with any help for me yet.

have you got any ideas?

might try restoring it when kids are in bed.

For the ms25, the 0800 disc should have unlocked it. What error are you getting?

Hi bhetrick

I do not get an error as such it just sort of hangs after i pick my choice from the dos list of ports to flsh using mykflash,,... I think it says Port Master and some numbers and just sits there...

I thought it was my pc so ordered the new drive and flashed it first time...

I did think its like the firmguard from the FW and have sat and did the ms28 counting trick to 10 over and over for days even though its an ms 25!!

Don't know if you mentioned it or not, but the 10-sec trick works only with VIA SATA chipsets.

Hi PS2Menace

I didnt realise that, perhaps thats why its not working for me, I have an Nforce chipset with onboard sata,
I have ordered a sata card that has the VIA chipset do you think that will make the difference?
If this is what my problem is can i get a way round this to see if i can reflash this drive?
Thanks again

Wait a minute. You don't do both the 0800 and the 10 second. You power up your drive and run the 0800. The 0800 unlocks the drive. Then you power up your pc and use the mtkflash and flash just like as if it were a new drive.

Hi bhetrick

Perhaps ive made a confusing post with what I have tried.. lol sorry.

When trying the 0800 disc, I did not do the 10 secont trick at the same time I tried these methods seperetly..

I have the drive out of the Xbox and plugged into the pc via sata cable, I get the drives power from an executor kit..

I power the PC and boot to my USB pen and get my dos prompt to run the mtkflash..

I power the drive with the executor kit and get a blue light...
I run the 0800 disc and listen,, i hear a brief drive kinda noise and just the disc spinning so i wait 20 seconds....maybe more on different attempts.

I then remove the 0800 disc and do the dos bits as I would the other sammy ms25 i have done..

Ive pretty much followed Textbook.2008 as far as i see?

If this is a firm guard issu do you think using a sata card to plug the drive into will make it easier to do the 10 second trick if 0800 dont work?

Its a blessing you can buy spare drives but i would like to crack whats up with this drive and sort it if possible..

:-)

Here is a thought..
if the drive wont read backups when in the XBox is there a chance it wont read the 0800 disc properly as its on a verbatim same as my backups? if this is possible the 0800 will never activate eh?

Not sure about it not reading the disk because of the laser...The 0800 dics isn't formatted like a game anyway. That's a toss up.

But if the 0800 isn't unlocking the firmguard, the 10-sec trick with a VIA chipset will do the job.

1. Turn on 360 while hooked up to VIA
2. Boot PC
3. Type mtkflash w /m /sata "hacked.bin"
4. Turn off 360
5. Select Xtreme Primary Master
6. Count to 10
7. Turn 360 on

Well....

Got the VIA card, bungedit in the PC and did the Flash!!! took 2-3 goes to get it and i needed to keep and IDE drive in but it worked at last!!

So flashed with the newest hacked FW for the sammy and put it back in the Xbox and its still the same, it will read origionals but not backups? it will play DVD movies and backup movies too?

So I guess summats gone wrong eh?

Thanks again..

Now follow this thread to figure out why the key isn't injecting itself... MY guess would be that you have to long of a path name.. (i.e. c:\program files\xbox360\firmware\hackedfw\sammyf2\xtreme14\)

Try putting the extracted files for the firmware on the root drive (c:\) and copy your orig.bin there, then run the command to make your hacked fw

But if it's reading originals, then the key must be in there.

Awhile back I flashed my friends 360. It has an ms25 just like my original 360. I flashed his with the same firmware I was running. Yet his ms25 wouldn't play my backups.

Long story short... his drive wouldn't play games burnt on Verbs at 2.4x, which worked perfectly on mine. I copied a backup and reburnt it at 4x on a Verb and it worked perfectly on his.

If that new drive is playing original games, then it's flashed right. What firmware speed did you update to?

My other sons Xbox has a hitachi and i used the executor kit to flash it and it wont read many backups unless you boot the xbox up with the backup in the drive.. then it will load them for some reason.

Nope, that's not weird. There's pleanty of posts about people having read problems with 12x. Reflash to 8 or 5x. I normally flash all consoles I mod with 8x.

Thanks bhetrick

I will give that a try and see how I get on,

Now ive used what I think is the lastest FW 1.4 for the samsung will my ms25 report as an ms28 as the old xtreme FW made it do so and this is whay i had to get the VIA card so Am I going to have to do the 10 second trick like i had to do to flash over again?

Thanks again

Thanks Guys,

Ive tried flashing the old drive with the X2 X5 X8 versions and all still the same, wheen i put in a backup it says please clean the disc or unreadable...origionals and movies are still fine.

I guess the lazer must be going then afterall??

It cant be the FW cause the new drive flashed ok and is running fine?

Try burning a game at 4x and see it that helps. It used to be a problem back in the old Hitachi days... Ever since then, I burn at 4x with never a problem.

And bhetrick, yeah I realized that about 2 minutes after you posted. DUH! ;)
