after trying several times i finally got it to work. compared to the old version , its way slower and more difficult to use. i thought things got simpler and faster with updates. anyway using vaio system with xp. using shrink to decode and veritas record now dx to backup discs. whats the deal please?

There's no deal, it's free. ;)
On a serious note, I don't see how it is more difficult to use than previous versions.
Maybe you should check the three new v3.1 guides at:
http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php
As far as being slower is concerned, it depends very much on your system.
Most users have reported a speed increase of about 20% or more.
The initial analysis is indeed slower, but the size estimate is now much more precise.

I used DVD Shrink 3.1 with Nero 6 to rip and burn Seabiscuit, full movie from disc, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, full movie, file mode, files from DVD Decrypter and Bad Boys 2, main title only, disc mode.
I'm using a VAIO computer 2.53 gig, 1 GB RAM, 105 GB hard drive, Sony CRX300A DVD-ROM and a Pioneer DVR-A06U DVD writer.I used Memorex DVD+R 4X media.
Start to finish on Seabiscuit was 47 minutes total. I spent 10 minutes getting the compression right, editing audio etc. 37 minutes to process after selecting "back-up".
Shrink 3.1 transitioned into Nero 6 seamlessly.
The audio preview feature allowed me to select the exact audio track I wanted.
I read all the 3.1 guides at http://www.dvdshrink.info before using the program.
The re-author feature is eaiser to use than 3.0b5.
IMHO a leap forward!

Something I forgot to add.
The amount of RAM makes a huge difference with v3.1.
Anything equals or below to 128MB will indeed be slow (very slow).
Everything above should be faster than previous versions. ;)

Just checked out Shrink ver 311. Seems the problems are gone with the video preview. Haven't tried a complete backup yet. Looks promising so far.
r.bugy, if you still want an older version of shrink, I think there was a link at doom9.org for it.

Well I guess you can only improve an already great program so much. I just tried Version 3.11 to do a complete backup. All problems I had before are gone and it worked as promised. As stated before, the automatic startup and use of Nero as the burning program works great and was an unexpected bonus. The program author did a fantastic job on the improvements and corrected the bugs in 1 day. Well Done to all involved. Sorry to hear its the last version.
