I've had this problem since dowloading DVDShrink. The first movie I tried to back up started giving me this error, mainly when trying to make an ISO file, but eventually it worked fine. Now I'm trying to back up another disk, but so far it has given me that same error every time. The exact error message is ' Failed to read file "E:\" The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid."

Is there some easy way of getting around this? Like I said, I initially got this error on my first disk, but somehow it ended up working. Any chance of that happening again?

For the record, my operating system is Vista, and my DVDShrink version is 3.2. Hope someone can help.

Do you have any packet writing software installed like InCD or Drag to Disk? If so, uninstall it.

Are you ripping to your HDD first or "shrinking" directly from the DVD? If the latter, rip to your HDD first with (1) DVDFab HD Decrypter or any other ripper with AnyDVD runnng in the background.

I don't have InCD or anything like that. I have a semi-old version of Nero that had InCD on the same CD, but I didn't install it, only Nero.

I'm kind of a noob at this stuff, but I'll try to do what you described. Any idea where I could find the programs I need?

Thanks for your help. I was able to find a working download of DVD Decrypter, and that does the trick perfectly.
