Well got my brand spanking DS3 and what do you know... the same frigging thing happens, yes that's right a brand new controller and I still have the controller locking up and or shutting off issue as a few other of you guys have had.

This basically means it has to be something with the system and has been happening through several firmware updates without being fixed. Has Sony acknowledged this problem; and could this be a hardware issue or a firm/software issue? Because I really don't want to have to give up my 60gig just because of this nonsense.

UPDATE: I think I've found the problem; see post #8

Both controllers were fully charged, I can assure you that it isn't a battery issue but something to do with the system itself, though I wish it was just a controller issue.

No, sadly it was only the store and the audio codec upgrade, unless it was a ghost-update which they did to fix the laser failing problem with 2.17. I haven't had the chance to update yet, has anyone had this problem since the latest update?

WOW!!!! THats not good news. Hopefully there is an update to fix this sooner or later. I remember having this issue (when it came to disconnecting and\or automatically turning off) with my first controller. It stopped over time and I still have the same year old controller but the left analog is worn. I wont be buying a DS3 controller since hearing this. there is enough issues with the regular sixaxis. All else fails I will just another sixaxis..............

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the DS3, in fact I can testify that it is MUCH better quality than the sixaxis. Sony appears to have switched back to using the same analogs as from the ps2 controllers which is clever and about time they fixed it.

I believe I have FINALLY found the source of the problem! After reading several different articles it turns out that it may be because of interference from my damn warhawk BT125 headset which explains why this almost never happens offline.

Here are the sourced articles:

I'm not 100% on this as I haven't had adequate time to test this theory, and would like to confirm something, if you are having the same problem are you using a BT headset? and if so which one?

OH ok. Thats really my only concern is the left analog stick. If its almost just the same as a ps2 analog then I will be getting two myself.

Not saying that it is or isnt, but I didnt get the controller dropping the connection to the ps3 as much (but still happended) after I let the controllers charge over night. BUt that was with the sixaxis. I will buy one and if it turns out that much better than the sixaxis analogs then I will buy another one. I prolly said this before but hopefully they drop the price of the sixaxis controllers.

I imagine they're going to put them on clearance sooner or later to try to get rid of the extra stock since they arent being produced anymore and are therefore obsolete.

Well Im not using the so call Warhawk headset but I do have a Jabra BT160. I didnt have this headset when I first purchased my PS3, but I beleive I did have the bt125. I never noticed that the issue stopped once I got a new bluetooth headset. (lost the BT125) Actually if I may recall, I didnt get this issue at all even after I start using the headset online. I play nba2k8 online daily and once I did get online I never had the controller disconnect on me. I would remember that cuz I wud get pissed if that did happen. I first got my 60gb in feb'07 and had to get a 40gb in October(blueray lense) THis never happend witht he 40gb and I have the same worn out left analog controller that origonally came with my 60gb.

So your findings do have some logic to it. hopefully this doesnt happen with any other BT devices. I do plan on getting the BT keyboard and remote control.
