DVD to DVD Burner question

I have been having problems burning DVD's that don't skip even when burning at 1X. I am using Ridata but not luck. My question is If I buy a DVD player like OPPO is there any copyright problems when burning from the dvd player directly to my standalone Sharp DVD burner?
