Please help, I have burned many DVD's with DVD shrink but i only have about a 70% success rate.
Certain DVDs like Family Guy DVDs and Team America and Talladega Nights will burn most of the process, then they will shut my computer down with no explanation or error code. I assume it is because of some copywrite software on the DVDs but I've tried bypassing that by using DVD Fab, DVD Decrypter, etc...
Now I"m trying to burn DVD Fab files that I copied to the hard drive, but Nero is telling me the burn process failed with no explanation.
Any help would be appreciated.

Could you post your error log from Nero?
A couple tips:
1. Ditch Nero and get ImgBurn.
2. Use good media! The Pro's at aD cannot stress this enough. We see so many stupid burn errors because of inferior media. Just skip the troublesome hit and miss media. Get Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim or even Sony.
3. Keep the burn speed down. 6x to 8x max.
4. Don't mutlti-task while burning.
My normal process, which rarely varies is as follows:
Rip to HDD using DvdFab Hd Decrypter (current version 4.1.2.0)
Process through FixVts
Deep Analysis then transcode with Dvd Shrink
Burn with ImgBurn.

yup its probably a poor quality media problem. what brand are you using? and what is your burn speed?
using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim burning at 6x to 8x max will solve 99% of your problems.
try clean reinstalls of your programs and use the guides in this thread for the correct methods to backup your DVDs

Thanks for the help guys,
I finished downloading all the current versions of the software you recommended and will try to burn again sometime in the next few days.
For what it's worth, here's what Nero told me on my failed attempt yesterday:
Read errors from sectors 2056928 to 2056943
(there were like twenty of these read errors, all with different sectors)
Data verification failed
Backup Process failed

If you were to post the log in it's entirity (minus your serial of course) i'm sure someone could muddle their way through it and tell you in detail what's going wrong. Give it a shot.

Hi, I like others on this thread have just lost the use of my DVD Burner. It can no longer read blank DVDs but has no problem with blank CDs.
I too have lost the use of my DVD Burner, it no longer recognizes blank DVDs. My problems all started when I installed the K-Lite Codec Mega Pack. It fixed my AVI to MPG problem and made my PVR work better. When I rebooted my PC, the Media Center Receiver Service (ehRecvr.exe) started and then took over my PC for almost 3 hours. I finally ended the process to get my machine back. (Having never seen this service before, why would it suddenly start? I have since disabled this service). Then, when I tried to burn a DVD, the disc was no longer recognized by the system.
I have done all the things suggested on this thread (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/14/350168), except for reinstalling Windows, but nothing worked. I went out and bought different makes of DVD-R and DVD+R but they didn't work either. I went out and bought an external USB DVD Burner, thinking that maybe my internal DVD Burner has bit the dust, but the new burner had the same problems. I uninstalled all my burning software; I uninstalled the K-Lite Codec Pack; still nothing worked. I re-installed the K-Lite Codec Pack; I downloaded ImgBurn and to my surprise, I was able to burn one disc from a previously created .iso file but when ImgBurn tried to verify the disc, it could no longer find it. (BTW, the created disc works fine in my DVD Player.) I then decided to purchase Cyberlink's PowerDirector software, thinking that maybe I would have more luck. Not a chance, it didn't recognize the blank DVD either.
Being convinced that the K-Lite Codec Pack has done something to my system, I used the Codec Tweak Tool to see what all the Codecs looked like and what they were doing. Imagine my surprise when all the PowerDirector Codecs, some Microsoft Codecs and some of my PVR Codecs were labelled DO_NOT_USE.
The full text file is over 3000 lines, I'm including a few (I have transferred the data to columns in an Excel spreadsheet for ease of use and I can forward if required) but I am not an audio/video expert, it's all geek to me. Would someone please look over the data and let me know if any of the Codecs, DLLs etc. could have affected my DVD burner. I would really love to have my DVD Burner back!!!!

Hey guys once again thanks for all the help. Sorry I have a few more questions on my attempt to figure this out.
In DVD shrink I did my deep analysis. Now I don't know how to transcode. If transcoding is the same as encoding (which is available in the 'backup' process, how do I get DVDShrink to burn files with IMGBURN instead of Nero (I'm not seeing any type of option).
Do I Backup the files to the Hard Drive, then open them through IMGBurn?

1) backup =transcode
2) output files from shrink as iso (target) onto hdd
3) burn iso files with imgburn. ( separate step)
