if anyone can help and save me some cash from buying more of these disks im wasting it would be much apprieciated
what brand and speed are the DVD's he uses and what you use?
Have you tried his backup in your console, and does it work?
It could be that your console does not like the media that you are using because making a back up from an already backed up game is very simple, you just copy it.
No there will be no .DVD file, that is only if you are ripping it from the original disc.
But you can make a back up from an already backed up game by just using Nero's "copy disc" function and making a direct copy. I would set it at a lower then max read speed and a burn speed of eithe 2.4X or 4X depending on the max speed of the DVD you use.
ok well his disks are fortis dvd + r dl, and so i bought the same ones as i thought it would be easier to do having the same disks knowing they work.....yeah he work fine on mine but wen i o use that nero copy cd thing i get that unreadable disk crap....to be honest im simply thinking i cant do them lol
Not all burners can burn the same media type as good. His burner may just do better with those discs. Personally i have never heard of that brand and they are most likely not great quality. as you can see here i was correct, look where it has the compatibility for consoles.

Here are my suggestions
1. get some Verbatim 6X max speed DVD+R DL
2. update the firmware on your burner if there is anything newer then what you have http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php
dont know if this helps but i also tried burning games from my laptop and had exactly the same problem, but when i did from my tower it worked fine, many laptop burners dont burn as good for some reason, i used pioneer 111D and verb discs, i also always use cloneCD to burn them, if there is no .dvd file i always create 1 using notepad,i never direct burn the image and i dont seem to have had any probs
Yeah, you could direct burn the image if you like, it will work fine using IMGburn and manually setting the layer break. When i first started i never used the .DVD file. Then i upgraded my IMGburn and it started to auto pick it for me.
