Possible fix for a bricked wii?

I half-bricked my Wii trying to run the pre-US NTSC/J version of Brawl. I can run games (except for both NTSC versions of brawl - haven't tried PAL) just fine, but I can't access any of my settings (opera browser error page appears). Will running an NTSC/U version of Mario Kart Wii unbrick my Wii, or do they both use the same firmware? Also, is there any website that actively keeps track of and posts each game with its corresponding firmware version in a table format of some sort? That would be very helpful should I half-brick my Wii again accidentally.
