HI,

I am struggling. I am working on editing video that was output directly to a DVD+R
through a standalone DVD recorded. The recording started and stopped at various
times and so the resulting structure includes two .VOBs one with the content and one
with the menu. The video VOB Note that the resulting output plays perfectly on my
computer as a DVD.

My editing tool is Premier Elements 2. Upon importing the video, I found that the
the audio and video were out of sync. According to the web this can be a problem
with this app and so I set out to convert the DVD output to AVI and this is where I
am having massive problems.

I have tried almost every tool I can think of including:
VirtualDubMod
Prism
MPEG Stream Clip
Video RedoPlus
MuxMan
DGIndex
Windows Movie Maker
DVD Shrink
DVDDecrypter
IFOEdit

I run into one of two problems consistently with each tool.

1.) The resulting AVI has the same synchronization problem as Premiere Elements

2.) The resulting AVI only includes the first chapter of the vob (58 seconds) and ignores the remaining 5 minutes plus of the video.

Can anyone provide a suggestion on what to do here. I am trying to copy the content of the .ifo file here, but it does not seem to work. I would be happy to provide any additional information that you think could be helpful. Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

Try using the updated release of virtualdub with
FccHandlers mpeg2 plugin.

Open the movie VOB is virtualdub. Is it the whole 6 minutes plus ?

Assuming it's all there, experiment with audio/interleaving to compensate for the mismatched audio/video sync.

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this and when opened, the resulting file is not the full 6 minutes, but is only a few seconds. I am certain that there is something weird about the DVD, but it is fully playable as a DVD. This is why I am struggling. Nothing seems to be working......

Hi,

One more additiona. I just tried ATGK. It successfully converted the full 6 minutes +, but unfortunately the resulting AVI had the problem of badly out-of-sync audio. This is driving me crazy! Anyone else have any suggestions?

What kind of audio does the avi have ? Mp3 ?
Since you have successfully converted the video,
use Virtualdub to resynch the audio.

Open the avi, and choose audio/interleaving and adjust the audio synch.
Set video/direct stream copy
File/save as avi.

I fumbled into the solution. This problem was driven by an issue at work and so I convinced my company to buy a breakout box that would allow me to re-capture the video. The break out box included Pinnacle Studio. I installed that and voila, it recognized the DVD content and imported it perfectly! I have no idea why it worked when nothing else did, but I am not going to argue! :-)

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.
