Is it necessary to do a Nand backup?

When I modded my PSP I didn't backup the original firmware. There was no saying about doing a Nand backup on the guide either. But, recently I found out people saying "it's stupid not to do nand backup. So, I would like to know if i would be able to do a backup of my original firmware now?

Just in case if I run into any problem and have to get it repair from Sony. For that to happen, I will have to go back to OFW. which I have no idea if possible or not.
A nand restore is not essential, however it could save your PSP if you ever have any seriuos problems with it, so it is definitely advisable to make a backup.
You can back up your nand on CFW, which will return the PSP to that state if you ever have to restore it. From there you would be able to move back to OFW.
As far as i know, a nand backup will fix any problems other than hardware failure, as it restores all of your original ID Storage etc. so you shouldnt have to send it back to Sony unless you had a hardware problem, in which case you wouldn't be able to restore the nand anyway.

I see. I feel *saved*. I didn't think it was possible to backup my Original Firmware since I went CFW.

By the way, is there any risk or chance of getting my psp Bricked using Nand backup?

Can you provide me a link to a guide or latest version of nand backup app?

Thanks!

As far as im aware, backing up the nand cannot brick your PSP. Just make sure that your pandora battery is fully charged and you should be fine.

You can back up your NAND using the MMS you used to downgrade the PSP (or make a new one using THIS guide.
Just put the memoru stick into your PSP, then put in your Pandora. The PSP should boot to the install menu, just press square to backup the NAND. It will take a few minutes to do, and may not show anything on the screen. When the memoory stick light stops flashing the backup is complete, and the psp should either switch off, or ask you to press X to reboot.

You may get some "bad block's", but dont worry about them, the backup should complete.

For FAT PSP's, the nand should be about 32mb, and the SLIM NAND should be about 64mb.

hope that helps.

Without knowing what the msg said.....

Bad blocks are ok, as long as you do not try to map a parts of a nand dump to the bad block.

Using a tool like NANDtool will map around any bad blocks present.

I had 4 Bad blocks on a slim straight out of the factory.

Do you suggest me to use NANDtool again?

Or

The one I have now is fine? There was no error or anything.

By the way, How do the errors usually shows? Does it tell you that you have bad block "X" to continue or "O" to cancel or does it just keeps going?

I didn't see anything about bad block except something flashed really fast.

I have never used the Open Nand Dumper, so i cant comment on its process or what the message may have been. personally i recommend dumping the nand using a MMScreated with THIS thread. Put the MMS in, then your pandora, and when the menu omes up press square to dump the Nand. It will then be saved to the route of the Memory stick. I used this to back up my nand, and it backed it up fine.

Your fine as you are. Usually it just gives a line of text saying bad block found xxxx and it will keep going until the dump is complete.
