How do you have it connected to the computer? If it isn't via firewire, it won't be seen.

It's hard to believe that a new computer doesn't have a firewire connection, but the good news is, you can get a firewire card, and put it in a PCI slot in your computer. They are relatively inexpensive.

Usually, the IEEE 1394 firewire connection, is built into the motherboard and no separate card is needed.

Make sure that you get a good firewire cable, too. The ends have to match your video camera and the card that you get. Your video camera has a 4-pin port, and the card that you get will more than likely have a 6-pin port, so you get a cable with those ends.

You are welcome, and I hope that it all goes well for you. And, if you are doing a lot of capture, from your video camera, make sure you have a hard drive, because you will want to capture as a DV-AVI file for the best quality. One hour of video will take up about 12GB of room on your hard drive.
