i've decided if i am to upgrade my 40 gb hard drive its best done sooner than later, I may go 250 or even 320 gb HDD instead of 160 gb but this is mostly to address reliablity/warrentys than cost/size.

this shall be done in the manner of blind date.

Contestant number one is a 'Seagate 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATA 5400rpm 8MB Cache - OEM', it boasts a 5 year warrenty and also a 256-MB non-voiltile cache memory which i think means faster transfer rate. however will the PS3 make use of this?

bad points- well solely that 256 memory may be wasted if the ps3 doesn't want it. and if it did it would then put the hard drive to sleep, if anything this is good as it would allow it to cool for so much but then when the ps3 wants to use the hard drive will i have to wait until the motor's back on. is this noticeable amount of time like 5 seconds or even more?

Contestant number two is a classy young fellow 'Toshiba MK1637GSX 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATA 5400rpm 8MB Cache - OEM'

good points
whilst the others have 150mbps data transfer rate this one has 300. thats almost double!

bad-no advertised warrenty, doesn't like long walks on the beach

Contestant number 3 'Fujitsu 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive 5400rpm 8MB Cache SATA150 - OEM'

good points- none(if anyone knows that these types are indestructable/extremely reliable then speak up)
bad points- no good points/advantages over the others and no advertised warrenty

last but not the least is contestant number four 'Western Digital WD1600BEVS 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATA150 5400rpm 8MB Cache -'

good points-word of mouth(/internet) these are pretty reliable but not as much as the seagate.
bad points- no advertised warrenty

so that was lame.
