Does anyone know if I swap out the inside of the xbox 360 w/one that is under warranty w/the one that isnt under warranty can they tell the differance.

One of the xbox 360 I had bought has been registered w/another person and they want to charge me $100 to register it under my name and they will fix it for free,but dont want to pay $100.

My xbox 360 that I have @ home is under warranty and is registered under my name. I wanted to see if I call it in stating that serial # that worked is broken and just swap out the casing. Can they tell if the inside of the xbox 360 was swaped. Like is the motherboard and all the inside tied to that serial # of the xbox 360.

The label w/still be intact as to I know how to take it off.

All replies would be greatfuly appreciated.

no way to tell that i know of. I do know they make different types of motherbards and DVD drives and such, and you could get a good guess at what you were buying by looking at the MFG date.
I kow you don't feel like paying but there are other places that will fix it for less then $100 Here are some resources to get you started.

The one I got works and is still under warranty,just want to see about switching the inside so I can this one fixed and get it sold to someone else since I dont have a need for 2. Also dont want to do the whole walmart swap.cant afford to do that and I can wait 2 weeks for a xbox 360 since I live in San Antonio,Tx its located in McAllen,Tx so not far and not long turn artound time.

You can see the serial number from the dashboard, and would be able to tell if it's been swapped, but I highly doube m$ goes through all the consoles and does that. I'm gonna give that a try too, when my xbox comes back from repair in a couple days.
Worth a try, worse case scenario is they send it back with nothing done to it.

I actually had another xbox 360 that I know was broken(didnt power on) and was out of warranty when I bought it.Called it in stating it had the 3ROD and let them trouble shoot it over phone just keep saying it gives me the 3 lights. They sent a box,I sent it back,they sent me another one. Dont think they really check whats wrong w/them.

I'd be willing to bet thier testing ties into the serial number on the mobo. Sure, they may start with the number on the case, but it'd be WAY to easy to end up with a mix up between consoles once they start opening them.

And the worse case scenario IS NOT that they'd just send back the console, but that your console which is still under warranty would no longer be.

I would suggest you keep calling back until you get hold of someone who will help you. I've bought a RROD xbox off of craigslist that the kid had already started the process for and didn't feel like following through. He even had the coffin. It was registered in his name and I gave her, MS employee, his name and address and she switched it to my info. Got another coffin and within two weeks I got it back repaired. Don't give up!
