for the hell of it, i picked up the nyko wii intercooler. yes, it's the same maker who made the infamous 360 intercooler, that scorched the system. but that was due to a faulty plug in design; all plastic. the EX model has an metal connector.
the nyko intercooler itself.
first off, it's very compact; it's a clip on style fan. it only goes over the rear vent hole, unlike the intec cooler, which goes over the usb ports and vent hole.
the power source is a pass through connection, like the ps3 and 360. by comparing the wii power connector and the intercooler's connector, they look almost the same.
with the wii fully off (red), the intercooler is off. on standby (orange/yellow), the intercooler turns on. the intercooler pulls out all warm/hot air from the system, but at a cost.
what's the cost? noise. the intercooler sounds like a jet warming up. it's not as noisy as the intec cooler, but there's audible noise.
my thoughts: for $15USD, it's not bad. the only thing that worries me is the pass through design. nyko claims that the usb ports doesn't have enough power for a fan, but the intec cooler proves them wrong. the intercooler is very efficient in removing the air inside the wii, but at a cost of silence. if you don't mind sound or don't use wiiconnect24, then by all means, go for it; this pulls out practically all warm/hot air from the system.
if silence is what you're looking for, then don't get this. i recommend picking up the intec v2 cooler (the thicker one with the on/off switch), getting a 12v micro fan from radioshack, and swap the fans. it's what i'm using currently, and it's near silent. i also paired it with the gamestop cooling stand so cool air can enter inside the wii. wiiconnect24 is not a problem anymore. this will cost more (probably around $30USD for the intec cooler and 12v fan), but it's a near silent cooling system.
