Swap Magic Freeze on Splash Screen

I'm trying to load files on a 128mb Staples usb flash drive using Swap Magic 3.6+. I have followed various guides on how to load .elf files. When I boot my PS2(v7) with the usb in the slot it goes to the swap magic splash screen and freezes. I have tried using both dvd and cd, but the same thing happens. I have formatted the flash drive to fat and fat32 and it still freezes. Swap Magic works fine with the flash drive not in the PS2.

Same thing happened to me, but can't you just load it without usb, and after it gets past splash, replug it in?

I had a problem with it just freezing at splash screen, even without a USB drive. But I apparently fixed it, when I put it in another ps2 (my spare), ejected (at the frozen splash), then it said, insert toc disc or whatever. then i closed it, then i pressed x, and it reloaded and it said Please Insert Program Disc or whatever. Then I switched it back to my regular ps2 (modded with fliptop) then it worked. You probably don't need to switch it to another ps2, AND it probably might not even work :p.

but it worked for me, honestly :D
