fat ps2 tray not staying open

my friend gave me tonight a "fat" ps2 and it seems to work fine except for one little problem. when i press the eject button, the tray slides out all the way, but before you can count to 5 it closes by itself. any ideas why?

The drive may not be sliding out far enough, check for sticking.
Also, try replacing the belt, a rubber band that's a little tighter than the belt can be used for a test. A worn belt can cause different problems

Yeah, its an easy fix.

1. Power on the unit and eject the tray.
2. Right before the tray goes back in and when its out at what you think is its furthest point, give a light pull and pull it about half an inch.

It should stay out now.
