OK I've been burning movies for a few monthe now. I've done almost 150 succesfully. I have winavi, dvdxcopy3 and nero 8.

Here's my problem. I have a season of a TV show, each episode as an avi file about 45min each. I want to put 4 maybe 5 at a time on a dvd with a good menu. I've tried several times but keep having troubles.
any help appreciated, Thanks

Well I have realized I have 2 problems now.

1. when I use convertxtodvd for this(tv episodes) it keeps giving me fullscreen. I've set it for 16:9 but it turns out fullscreen. Ive had some trouble like this before with convertx. I've set video resize manually before, sometimes with good results sometimes not.

I can get widescreen with single movies though. If I use winavi I can get widescreen but the menu sucks. And I don't see any settings for a menu.(I has also been locking up when I set it to seperate titles on a single dvd)

2. I can't rename the fields on the menu in convertx. It uses the file name of the 1st episode for the dvd name. and the filename of each file for the 4 titles (episodes). I can rename the file beford loading them to convertx to solve this problem, but it seem like there should be a better solution.

The aspect ratio problem keeps coming up from time to time. I just use winavi if that happens. But I'd like to learn how to solve the problem instead of using a different program!!

winavi's menu is fine for a single title. I'm not sure about multi titles it keeps locking up if I try to convert 4 different titles on 1 dvd.

I hope someone can save me from wasting a bunch of dvds here. Thanks

ConvertX setting for 'TV Screen' should be set to 'Automatic' - then it's up to the DVD player to output widescreen or letterbox according to the TV type that it's connected to.
You can turn off the burn to disk feature of Convertx and just use a good media player like 'VLC' to test the DVD files in the output folder - menu operation and such.
Then burn the disk when convenient, using a good program like 'IMGBurn'.

I'll look for VLC. Good idea. but that will only help with my own trial and error. Does anyone have any... instructions or know of a tutorial?

I do like to learn by making my own mistakes. Maybe I'll try with some sample avi files so I don't have to wait an hour to see if the settings I select work.

Oh yeah as I mentioned before the avi IS a widescreen(16:9). I can use winavi to convert 1 episode and it will produce a widescreen dvd.

in video processing tab what is your settings for "video resize method" ?

and in "tv format" tab whats all the settings there?
------
maybe force "letterbox" and 16:9 widescreen instead of auto...

------------

is this with all files you use? as i have seen this in the old days 99% go trhough as should an odd file, just wont have it!

It's just the odd file that gives me trouble. This time I changed the video resize to manual - the same crop/pad as automatic resize settings mind you and that did the trick. But as you said, sometimes nothing seem to change it. What's that about? I thought I was going crazy!!

Well, once again thanks Rotary for all your help. You always seem to be here helping when we need it, thats very nice of you to give your time to all of us out here. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Yes I did look at the safe zone. I didn't really know what that was.
I resized to fit in the safe zone and not be distorted... but the result was distorted on the dvd. So I've beeen resizing without staying in the safe zone and the picture usually turns out great.

So if you could explain the correct way to use the safe zone that would be great. Thanks

to be honest i rarely use convertxtodvd like many other programs here i just use and test to help other people, the safe zone i would assume just move to where you like it and ok it.

is the distortion just this 1 avi as it could be that and not convertxtodvd?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Safe Zone is really only for text placement to be sure it show on TV due to overscan.
If you resizing your picture the way it show in one of Rotary threads, than for sure it will be distorted on TV. Look at top and side bars, they are not even, so it will get stretched.
In resizing you have to keep 16:9(1.78)ratio of the picture.
