when burning I use to get a calibration error, then I flashed my drive per instructions from other posts, and now everything is fine.

But why do I need to flash the drive? What does this do for me and how often should I do it.
Thanks, K

A Power Calibration error? as often as not caused by poor media.

Updated firmware contains more writing strategies for different brands of disks. The burner now recognizes the coding on the DVD and adjusts laser power accordingly.
If you use a known reliable brand (like 'Verbatim') there will probably no reason to update the firmware - which shouldn't be done routinely any-way;the fact is that sometimes the flashing fails and ends in tears.

Thank you for the info. I usually stick to Memorex or Sony with no problems until lately. After I flashed my drive it worked like a charm. The stores I usually get my disks at don't have verbatim. Just memorex adn sony. But I could shop around and find better disks.

Any how thanks for the info.
K.

Just to add a little to the sagely advice from Attar, memorex is NOT what you want to be feeding your burner. Most of those code out as CMC MAG; horrid blank media.

Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim is the way to go for optimum quality.

memorex can work rarely but not for long degradation follows after couple months...

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Degradation may refer to;

Biodegradation, the processes by which organic substances are broken down by living organisms

Chemical decomposition, the degradation of chemical compounds

Degradation (song), by the Violent Femmes

Degradation (telecommunications), the loss of quality of an electronic signal

Degradation Ceremony, a ritual performed when cleric is deprived of office or a Knight is stripped of the honour

Elegant degradation, in engineering, the gradual failing of a machine

Nothing here to see, move along folks.
