This is a new problem for me that I've encountered a lot lately while trying to make a backup of a movie from an .avi file to a DVD+R. Basically, about 5 minutes in to the film (seemingly around the same time the film hits "Chapter 2"), the disc "freezes" and stops playback. I am always able to skip ahead to the next chapter and slowly rewind to the end of the scrambled section, but I generally miss out on 2-3 minutes of playback. The rest of the movie always works fine.

I've tried:
using different convertors, including ConvertXtoDVD and WinAVI
several different burning programs
several different brands of media, including +R and -R discs
watching the movie on my PC and my standalone DVD player

I've backed-up hundreds of DVDs in the past without experiencing any problems like this, but now it happens (almost) every time and I can't figure out why. Anyone have any suggestions? It'd be greatly appreciated...

Hi

1) what brand of discs are u using
2) what burn speed ( burn at no more than 1/2 rateed speed)
3) are u using Imgburn as your burning engine ? If not, then why not?
4) Is your firmware on burner up to date ?
5) Are you using Taiyo Yudens or Verbatim discs? If not , try them

does the file play ok before you burn? do you get anything pop up when converting with convertxtodvd? also sound like you have a bad spot in the movie! and this is just a downloaded file, just download it from a different place that has a different ripper.

Hey... to answer your guys' responses:

1) No, not using Taiyo Yudens or Verbatim discs... usually just either Sony or Maxell brands. I know they're not the greatest, but have never let me down until recently.

2) I always burn at lowest possible speed (4x)

3) never heard of Imgburn (though I'll look into it). I always use either Nero, or the burning agent incorporated with ConvertXtoDVD

4) as far as I know, the burner's firmware is updated properly.

5) files play great pre-burn and nothing pops up during conversion. I don't think its caused by a poor source file... I only use trusted rippers.

I don't think I went into enough detail earlier. In my oppinion (and only my oppinion, I'm not fluent in this kind of thing at all), it seems like the problem always starts as the disc changes from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2, and only persits during Chapter 2. I have my converter set to add chapters every 5 minutes or so... would it be worth changing that to see what happens or is that too far-fetched to be possible?

Thanks for all the help so far. :)
