Should i use dvd laser cleaner to read games better? discs freezing

My originals play fine on my modded xbox but my backups keep freezing or getting the disc needs to be cleaned error. I am so frustrated. Should i try dvd laser cleaner? Should i try different media (i use verbatim dvd-dl)? Do i need a new dvd drive or laser? Do i need new firmware (console is a couple years old but i dont play it that much)?

I use xbc and imgburn with a kreon flashed reader, dont know what firmware i have.

I am ready to get rid of this console if i cant fix this. Please help. thank you

First you can try to adjust the POT... google "Xbox 360 DVD POT Calibration"... If that doesn't work then you either need to replace the laser or buy a new drive if you are not comfortable replacing the laser......... Good Luck!

Just buy a new laser they are 12.78 after shipping and insurance off ebay.I am going threw the same thing right now after the repair shop switched dvd drives on me.

I am not the most technical guy, how hard is it to replace the laser or harddrive on a 360?

its fairly easy to do, but just make sure you note how much of a turn it takes to get the screws that hold the rails in out, other wise you will spend all day getting it aligned back to where it was.

how would replacing the hard drive affect anything????? and to replace the laser, you have to take the rails out. its what holds the laser.

you could do that, but you going to have to flash the new drive with your old drives FW.

forgive me as i am very new to this. Couldnt i flash it with the newest latest firmware? Cause my modded xbox is pretty old. I think new stuff has come out since then.

Yes you just have to make sure you put the key from your old drive onto the new drive....(FW TOOLBOX).... If you get the same exact drive that you have it is fairly easy but if you get a different drive you will have to spoof it....

why buy a new laser if it reads orginals? you need to check your media, did u use verbs? if not the get verbs. also could be discs getting old. however its not the laser if it reads orig's fine. what speed did you burn at? look into that first. and yes a laser cleaner wouldnt hurt.

i use verbs and i burn at 2.4x. It also happens with brand new backups. So i dont know what the problem is?

Its kind of old so would upgrading the firmware to the newest ixtreme help with reading the discs and not getting errors or freezing?
