i used to purchase memorex dvd+r blank media, but after i started noticing some dark lil' circle stains on the written side of the disc i changed. this is happening to most of the old movies that ive backed up about 2-3 months ago. it has nothing to do on how i store the movies, because i use a 200 disk folder. ive noticed these kind of like dark stains on the movies recently, and as soon i noticed them i switched to fujifilm brand wich has given me better results. has anyone had this happened to their back up movies, and can anyone tell me where these lil' dark stains come from??

Not sure about that, but I myself don't use Memorex DVD medai anymore. Most of the Memorex I have bought have been RICOHJPN, which usually give me audio and FMV problems, mainly in PS2 backups. My suggestion is just opt for another brand like Fuji and always check to make sure the media you buy isn't RICOHJPN. If it is, return them immediately.

HI guys, Do you realize that RICOH is also RITEK, one of the best blank media out there. Just my 2 cents. Are these dark circles showing up as any sort of problem in the playback? Would like to know for future reference.
Also download DVDinfopro. A free program that will tell you info about blank discs you have if you don't know who made them. Another good source of information is www.dvdrhelp.com. Fuji +R media is also Ricoh on the dvdrhelp site.

Jerry, maybe these RICOHJPN discs are supposed to be good, but I've had several audio problems with them, while NEVER having these problems with other discs, even other brands that are RICOH. I can only go by what works for myself. I have heard of others having problems with RICOHJPN discs under the Memorex label...Jdilla being an obvious example.
Jdilla, as for determining the manufacturer, there are some programs that can do this. I use DVD Identifier, which can be downloaded for free.

jay33, I know burners can sometimes be very picky about what they burn best. However all the brands you mentioned above (both the good and the bad) are made by the same company. Then on the other thread you bought Khypermedia and claim they are good (one of the problem causing media). Its great that they work for you and I hope your luck continues. But If you read most of the forum posts its not a good choice. Everyone has their own favorites. But don't be surprised if you start to have problems with that stuff. Price isn't everything.

thank you jerry and jay for your thoughts. i must say memorex had never given me problems in the past, and it actually hasnt given me problems at all, i gotta check if these little dark circlelish-stains affects playback in any way, ill sit down and watch my dvd backup of "the hulk" wich is the one that is more stain. this problem has been the only problem that has made me steer away from memorex, because it's been said that dvdblank media should last 100 years, i dont expect that from memorex since stains are already coming on my backups that ive done 2-3 months ago. as far as game wise, i dont have no complain, the sound and visual graphics have never been an issue with memorex. but im noticing alot of difference(quality wise) with fujifilm already. one last question where can i download this dvdindentifier that you are both talking about, can i get a website please.. thank you both

jdilla, please get back to us if the stains show up as playback problems. I really would like to know for future reference. I haven't seen that at all and I use Memorex blanks in my Memorex 4x burner if I run out of Ritek and need blanks in a hurry. Keep us posted.

ok today i sat down and drank a cold one and watched the movie "the hulk" since this one was the one that had some kind of darkish stains on it. turn the volume on my hometheater up on high, and im glad to tell you that it didnt do nothing to the movie. maybe because i applied the "skip doctor" before playback, who knows all i know is that it didnt have no problems on playback. it kinda scared me doe, because i downloaded dvdidentifier(thanks for the link) and checked back on some memorex disc that ive had use, and 80% of all memorex disc were made by RICOHJPN, and about 20 % where made by this manufacture id CMC MAG can anyone tell me who is this name? as far as fuji goes, all of the disc are from RICOHJPN.R00. jay im happy to tell you that i havent any problems with ps2 backups using either memorex or fujifilm. same goes for the movies. hope my info helped in anyway, peace and holla back!!

Just don't use those Memorex RICOHJPN discs for PS2 backups. Those are the ones I have had several audio and FMV problems with. I don't buy Memorex even if they are a dollar each, which isn't a great deal anymore. I got HP DVD+r's for 40 cents each.

A lot more money. I don't burn 4x discs at 4x, anyway. There is more of a chance of a problem or glitch burning at faster speeds. I stick with 2x on -r's and 2.4x on +r's.

Ya, me refraining from burning at max speed is more so for PS2 games than movies. Still, I don't take chances by burning at 4x. I even tried burning the Memorex RICOHJPN PS2 backups at 1x speed and there were still issues with skipping audio and FMV.

I also do a lot of 2 movies on 1 disc, which seems to have more problems at max speed. I don't know exactly why this would occur, but there are more processes involved in putting 2 movies on 1 DVDr.
