Creative DVD ROM (DVD-1241E)

Ok i was wondering if there is something wrong with my drive, or if i need to get a firmware update etc.
Ive just gotten a DVD writer recently and have found that this drive doesnt like some DVDs.
It will report them as CD's with sizes about 660MB.
So far it has only done this on some DVDs i have burnt and some PS2 games(original)
It seems to have no problem with original DVD movie discs.

Is there anything i can do, as i want to be able to copy on the fly for backing up my PS2 games.

If the drive cant be "fixed", can anyone reccomend me a good DVD-ROM which can real ALL DVDs (or the majority of them)
