AVI on DVD-R

Hi all, this is my first post!

I've burned some avi to cd and they play on my home dvd player.

I've burned the same files to a dvd-r, but the player says 'unknown disc'?

I've also tried mp3s on a dvd-r and they don't play on the home player, but I know the player does play mp3 from a dvd-r because i have a disc from a friend that works.

Does anyone know the problem?

Perhaps Make a backup of your friends disk and see if it plays in their player.
Cut back the burning speed on DVD disks to 4x.
Use 'Verbatim' DVD disks for choice.

yeah could be a poor media problem use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim burning slow
