Connecting external Region-Free DVD player to iMac

I have a region-free/PAL to NTSC/Macrovision-beating DVD player and would like to connect it to my G4 iMac, for the purpose of copying it to my hard drive, then creating a region-free DVD(for personal use, of course).

Is this possible? And if so, how?
