i wanted to upgrade from 3.40 OE-A without bricking and all that. can anyone help me?

I would go to dark-alex.org.
Download 3.52m33 latest update. Then follow the read me file.
I'm sure it will tell you to get the 3.52.pbp and 1.50.pbp from sony's webpage. Then put them where the read me file says on your memory stick and run the updater.

Once you get to 3.52-m33 you should be able to go straight to 3.90-m33 the same way as you did with 3.52 except with the 3.90.pbp of course.
