I have just purchased a Compaq Laptop C773TU

It came with preloaded DOS, I have now installed win XP SP2 on it

The problem i am facing is that inspite of installing codecs, Media Player 11 does not shows me the picture when I play a DVD, it just plays the sound

If I try with Nero Showtime (Nero7), it plays the movie but the quality of the video is very low.

Please Help

I dont use Power DVD because it costs money$$$

You could try the free AVS dvd player found at
http://www.download.com/AVS-DVD-Player/3...cdlPid=10669161

It seems ok. It can also convert stereo sound to 5.1 or 7.1 dolby surround.

If you are willing to pay money then you could use Power DVD, which is still one of the best players or you could also buy Windvd. The trial is at

I know that AVS is not really good, but VLC has always worked fine for me, even though it does not have many DVD conrrols. Windvd is just as good as powerdvd. I tried them both out.
