i wanted to be able to put an external usb hdd on my ps2 but how would i go about this

This is What i have:

1. Slim Silver PS2
2. 40gb hdd
3. Gameshark 2
4. 2 Memcards (not sure if this helps)
5. No Usb Hdd case but ill get one if this will work.
6. Ill make my own switch mods.
7. Many usb flash drives.


But here is another question about my old ps2 which has a garbage laser but still works for some things is there a way i can use hdloader without using a ps1 game to boot it off my memcard.
