XP SP3 official release gets delayed

article published on 29 April, 2008

The giant software company added that there was a "compatibility issue between the XP service pack and Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System, a retail chain management program for small and midsize businesses." The company had finalized the code for ... [ read the full article ]

You can just disable automatic updates and not visit Windows Update if you really don't want SP3, or any other MS update for that matter.

I was actually really looking forward to this. But I'd rather it be delayed then to have to get another update to fix an update.

Don't worry, that'll still happen. Microsoft is known for that. Don't really know if you can consider it a bad thing though, it shows their concern for customers on an aging but great OS.

Someone please explain what Microsoft Dynamics RMS is and what it does.

I knew something was going too happen.

Why all the anger towrds MS anyway if windows was not the big shot then we could not lay all the games out there.

Web all know they want to get our money but remember this if they fail then whet happens too the pc games that we all play.

Yoyur going too say links but that will be a long switch over.

1. Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) offers small and mid-market retailers a complete point-of-sale (POS) solution that can be adapted to meet unique retail requirements. This powerful software package automates POS processes and store operations, provides centralized control for multi-store retailers, and integrates with Microsoft Office system programs, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and other popular applications. Microsoft Dynamics RMS is built on a proven Microsoft platform that adapts to meet unique and changing retail needs.

- in other words , it doesn't affect the non commercial XP user like you and me at all.

2. Tell me a company that doesn't :P

What utter tosh. Without this near monopoly games would be written using platform independent code, like they used to be.

Mixed reports on sp3. They probably forgot to update some drm feature that the mpaa wants.
At least they found this one... maybe a little late seeing as the rc versions of this update have been floating around for 6 months, but they have found it..

Makes an odd change to see M$ actually test something and then delay because it doesn't work. Could this be a core policy change in the software division? Somehow I doubt it, but maybe they are starting to feel the pinch, especially in the business sector, from the free alternatives. With the poor uptake of vista by businesses (and I can't blame the businesses.. I have had to work on fista networks in offices... and they are dire) and the ever greater threat from FOSS operating systems and applications a broken update which screws up something that paying business customers rely on would I suspect be the final straw for a lot of businesses which are feeling the pinch themselves.

Now lets wait and see how many other applications this update breaks.. Vista sp1 increased the broken software list from 600 to 1700 apps.

Please tell me I have tried 2 versions now of linux and since I am so use too the windows configuration it was hard as hell.

If you don't know but macintosh II I think was so easy too use with it's graphical interface but then M$ went and stole the idea from a little company called xerox and at the time they didn't care who had it so they lost all that money .

Back too the point the 2 linux I used on a seperate partition were ubuntu it was ok and easy too use then I took it off and it messed up my windows where at the time I didnt know it used the mbr too load.

Then last week I tried debian and it was ok except you had too add passwords too it even if you didnt want PWs.

Then I had trouble taking that out thank god I had a win xp disk made back in 2002 and it had that repair mbr then windows was fine so unless they get some easier too use stuff I will stay with M$ even though they are money grubbers.

Also I like too point out most of the games I play on windows like Red alert the first decade and sim city rush hour I could'nt even play on linux.

There was one really good thing other then the wording is different for the hard drive and the interface is a little different I did like it because it was fast and didn't hog memory and loaded stuff easy.

I will switch if people get off there butts and make some software that is like the stuff I use on windows too use on linux.

Like nero but I think there is aversion and vso convertxtodvd.

By the way what version name of linux are you talking about.

sorry this is not a rant I just wanted too point out a few things and I did I would love too switch but its not the right time at the moment.

Windows XP Service pack 3-5512 RTM is out there if you look around. I haven't noticed any bad changes from installing it last week. No stupid Media Player 11 either.

Internet Explorer 7 was a dog before and it's still a dog now. That piece of crap cannot be removed even though it really sucks. The last thing I would ever do, is put that damned thing on a fresh OS installation on a new hard drive, which is in the pipeline this Summer.

I have no use for a browser that blocks websites without my permission and takes 5 minutes to launch, just to get to my mail box...
