hi, i recently dropped my psp and the switch that tells the psp that the cover is closed broke off. I wanted to know if i solder the leads of the switch together whether or not this will fix the problem. Also will doing this cause any other problems, other than the psp always thinking that the cover is closed?

Hm, I really don't know if it would cause a problem. Try looking for a new switch or something. Soldering the leads should be fine IMO.

What you can do if your not going to replace the switch is just stick a piece of tinfoil in the little box that houses the lever.

Now your PSP will always think there's a umd in the drive so just turn off umd autostart in system settings.

theres a bit of a problem there is its always on the laser is always on so i dont know if that would be bad. may be there is some way of making a switch like putting a piece of plastic with a bit of metal glued on and then try and wedge it in. its hard to explain so ill see if i can make a picture

sorry there a bit poor but thats just an idea i had that might help solve it

I was able to get things working by putting tinfoil across the leads. Its working with the tinfoil so i don't see any need to replace the switch, i might mess it up more than it already is. "Dr1ver" said that the laser will always be on now, will this cause any harm to the laser or shorten its life?

No, the laser is not always on. It turns on as soon as the PSP is turned on and will turn off once it sees no UMD. One problem though is that you can't swap UMDs without reseating the foil or restarting the system, something that'll trigger the system to recheck the UMD drive.

umm yes it will always be on. turn the psp on and press down on the switch with no umd in and the laser will turn on no matter wether there is a umd in or not. yes it might stop one its realised there is no umd in there but i think it will keep the laser on until it can read something.

arr just go what you are trying to say if you put a umd in the drive it will stop reading one it has read it got it but if you take it out you could switch the psp on and then off and it will start to read the new umd
