Well, I have a totally bricked ms28 drive (wont eject, no power, error 65) which I've spent the best part of 2 days trying to fix. I've come to the conclusion thats its finally died and my question is this.
Could I buy an ms25 drive and flash it with my original ms28 firmware? I backed up the ms28 firmware before it died, so I have the drive key.
Would it be that simple?
On a side note, I also am thinking of getting just the ms25 board and putting it into my (dead) ms28, effectivly making an ms25 drive. Could I then flash with original ms28 firmware and it would work as normal?
Many thanks for reading my thread and thanks in advance for replys :)
I was flashin it with ixtreme 1.4 when it went, and as the ms28s are alot harder to hack than the ms25 id rather have a 25. For arguments sake, if I got just the ms25 dvd board, flashed it with ixtreme 1.4 using my 360 key, I could just switch the boards in the dvd drive and it would be fine?
You would still have to spoof the MS25 drive to report back at a MS28 drive, and still would have to 10-sec trick it to flash if an upgraded FW came out.
Cheers PS2Menace, so, what I'm going to do is this...
Buy a ms25 board, flash with ixtreme 1.4 using my 360 key (360 key from an ms28 drive) replace the broken board in my ms28 with the new flashed ms25 board. Would I still need to spoof or would it boot as it is as its still using my 360 key so the xbox will recognise it as a drive belonging to that xbox? Its going to be ms28 drive with ms25 hacked ixtreme board.
From what I've read in guides and on afterdawn, the only difference between ms25 and ms28 is the actual firmware, so as they are both psyically the same drive, switching the boards should work?
For all purposes I'm wanting my ms28 to act exactly the same as an ms25 once the new board is in...
If that doesn't work I can still just buy a ms25 and replace the factory board with the hacked ms25 board, so I'm not really going to loose anything
Once again thanks for the tips, can always count on afterdawn to give helpful advice
I'm pretty sure if you use a MS25 board in a MS28 drive, you still have to spoof the fw to report back as MS28. And again, if you ever tried to upgrade your FW, you'd have to do the 10-second trick since it's now a spoofed MS28. Better to just get a MS28 board so you don't have to worry about spoofing and all that.
Personally, I'd rather have a BENQ drive and I've owned all 3.
