Hey guys, are the mod chips any good for the Xbox 360? I'm just asking about the mod chip, I've seen the other method but I'd be to nervous doing it myself (I'd probably screw it up and I'm too lazy lol)

That website has a Premodified Xbox 360 and it comes with a NME 2.0 mod chip, is that any good? There's another one called Infectus 2 but it's an extra $100, is there any significant difference between them in terms of performance?

So I'm just wondering if a modified Xbox 360 is reliable, I'm curious about the NME 2.0 Mod chip, if anyone has used it etc.

In the description for the NME 2.0 mod chip it says you have to patch the games, I assume that's just a simple .exe program you run and you use it on the image file? Is the burning simple like the Playstation 2 method?

Also, I have a Dual Layer DVD burner and it's an LG. I don't own a Xbox 360 but I'm really tempted to buy one because of GTA 4 but I wanna hold off and wait, hoping it gets announced for PC.

I'm not going to buy anything off that site it's to expensive, I'm just using the site for the information.

Btw, my Playstation 2 is modified (Version 7), I've never had a problem with it. I've been using it for years, I got it modified at a mall. Oh and how is GTA 4?

Thanks.

well for the whole modchip thing. I think everyone on this forum to go with flashing. For multiple reasons of course too, first its cheaper. you have the same risks (xbox live) of getting banned, you gain some knowledge and i guess some sort of skill, and also because its fairly simple. Im not going to preach to you and tell you, you should not get the chip, however with the guides i could give you and posted here you wont brick your 360. The only thing you would have to watch out for is the hitachi 79. Because you have to solder the drive. So then you could brick it. I just flashed mine a few weeks ago and believe me i was in your spot. A total noob to xbox 360 flash/mod. i flashed mine with no problems and then re-flashed it to a different read speed the next day. Its very simple and very easy to understand once you realize what your doing.

You said u have a dl burner. Not sure about the LG or whatever, but im sure it will be fine with buning backups.

Oh and you asked about GTA4. Its pretty cool. but me personally wouldn't buy a 360 just for the game. But dont get me wrong its very fun. Oh and i think banjo kazoo is coming out soon....YES :)

SICK WIT IT

When the going gets tough....the quitters quit.

Thanks, most of the people I see on here always recommend the flash method. I don't think I've seen anyone with a modified PS2 (mod chip) give their feed back on one.

Could you give me an up to date, step by step method of flashing the Xbox 360 (latest) or point me to a thread that has one? I saw that .pdf file explaining how but it's probably old isn't it? You could private message me the information if you want.

Have you had any problems with your Xbox 360? Is this 100% reliable? Do all games work? Do any of them freeze? (the game, not the media)

Oh and about GTA 4, can you still decapitate heads with the shotgun and magnum etc? :P

I checked the tutorial and it seems like a huge hassle, there are versions that don't work and each drive you have different ways of flashing it and you need a certain setup and all this crap. There is no way of knowing if I'll even be able to do this depending on the dvd-drive.

Has anyone bought one and wasn't able to flash it or got a bad version? It's no problem now because I probably won't get one until Resident Evil 5 comes out, GTA 4 will probably come out on PC eventually but if it doesn't get announced in 5 months or so I'll just buy one.

Has anyone bought one in Canada? Does any one know what version the Dvd drive is they sell in Futureshops or Ebgames in Richmond Hill?

I have a Dell Dimension XPS Generation 2 system by the way, here are the specifications for it.

By the time I buy one something new will probably be out haha, See you guys tomorrow.

Well if you read the ad in your first link it notes that the chip is flashed with ixtreme and has a connection. I would assume that is for the end user to reflash the chip with newer bios/firmwares etc. when they are made available. So even with a chip you will still probably have to get your hands a little dirty and get the mouse running in it's cage to figure out how to do that.

Math wise
500.00 dollars for a chipped "core system" who knows what shipping costs would be for that?
So you get a 280.00 system retail
A 60.00 dollar mod chip.
That's 340.00
You're paying 160.00 for labor plus whatever shipping costs are.
or
280.00 retail for a "core system" which is what they are selling.
20.00 bucks max for a sata card.
I had to spend 20 bucks on a usb floppy drive and disks because my mobo doesn't support booting from a usb flash drive and I didn't have a connection for a regular cheap floppy drive.
That's 320.00. That's a difference of 180.00 not counting shipping savings.
You could probably find a local modder on craigslist that would flash your drive for 30 to 40 bucks.
Hell you could probably find a used 360 on there and get it flashed for less than the cost of the core system retail w/ tax.

Flashing and reflashing due to updates and patches is pretty much how it is regardless of which way you go on newer systems so I guess it's a matter of how much money you are willing to spend. I know that the only reason I tinker with this kinda stuff is because it's fun. It's a hobby and I would rather invest my time into figuring out how to do it myself than pay someone else to do it. Luckily there are the forums here that help people like me out when I hit a brick wall.
That's just my perspective anyways.

XBOX Halo Ed. = DuoX2 w/250gb HD
Xbox 360 Red Elite 120GB HDD = no-stealth 1.6 & XBReboot V3 & 1TB usb hdd
PS2 Slim = freemcboot v1.8 - PSP Black Slim = 5.00m33-6
Wii = w/ Blue XCM ii-case, Wiikey2 & softmodded
