I have experience of doing of soldering a few things for past school projects, but should that be fine for soldering this chip?

Are you trying to install in a fat PS2 or a slim?

The solder connections on ps2's are tiny. Especially on a slim ps2. Don't know how small of points you've soldered to.

the points are about the size on a pin point. i've installed a few chips in both versions of ps2 and its not for the school project type..
