I have an HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B Dvd drive (Firmware A104)

I had never actually needed to buy dual layer discs before but the need arose. Went and got them...but they won't burn! I have tried bitsetting but it says that it isn't supported on this device. (Though I have heard the opposite online)I have tried numerous programs and all have failed me. It will burn anything else and will even detect that the disc is a dual-layer dvd.

Here is a Nero error report:

Hi

Iomega HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i bought a iomega super dvd burner (external). nero info tool and windows recognise it as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B. It burns DVD+R's at 12x and -R's at 8x + & - RW's burn at 4x. It is also able to burn dual layer DVD's at 2.4x. Shortly after i purchased this burner they released a 16x Burner. it looks identical. could mine be upgaded to 16x? is there any firmware available?

Jsut to inform you however that Nero is NOT the best of apps for d/l burning.

Your disc maybe your problem. Found this at cd freaks website

RITEK S04 - Suggest burner

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How about none of the above. I hate to say it man but Ritek in general has taken a dive in quality and their D/L media is no exception. You might get a working burn but it's anyone's guess as to how long it will last. Who knows though, Ritek might surprise us with this new S04 8x D/L media but methinks not. Anyways, the Benq or Lite-On would be my pick of the bunch.

Actually, the Ritek S04s aren't bad. I prefer them over the MII Verbatim DLs.

BUT your burner has to like them. My Benq doesn't, actually can't get a good burn with them on it, but one of my Lite-ons and both of my Sammys do. I'ts very possible your HL-DT-ST isn't compatible with them.

Try some Verbatim DLs, the Made in Singapore ones. Do your first burn at 2.4x, if that goes well, try 4x.
