I know I know this is all over the forums somewhere. I have read loads of info on this. I have seen the youtube vids. I just cant seem to find a common answers. Some say you need the mod chip and a few say no.

So please I have 3.2V on my Wii and am wondering if I can burn "back up" games and play them on my console WIHOUT a chip.

If not what is the unanimous best chip and how hard is the install. I can solder but what is the percentile of failure to the system?

I would appreciate no responses about "hey use the search button" or alike. Just straight answers. Sorry for the inconvenience.

My Wii is one of the first available. I have had it since 2006, got it the day after thanksgiving before the 2007 new year.

I also put my supersmash game into my laptop and it would not recognize anything.

You need a mod chip to play burnt games. That part is simple. I dont know where you heard otherwise but they're wrong. There is no softmod that allows play of backup games without a mod chip at this time.

And there is no 'best chip' becuase different wii's need different chips. If you have an older wii then a wiikey is your best bet. For newer (D2C) consoles you would want either an argon or infectus. The wiikey is 6 wires. Most D2C chips currently are 10 wires (9 wires +1 optional one) but some of the earlier ones are up to 30.

Theres also a product called the wii-clip that fits over the chip on the wii drive board and allows solder-free chipping. Most people have great results it but there are some complaints of it coming loose easily.

And I should also add that nearly all this information was available in the stickies. So apperently you didnt read as much as you think you did.

Well that helps a bit. The earliest wii's were the simplest to mod and a wiikey will work fine for them. Wiikey install is pretty simple and not too difficult.

And again, if you had read nearly as much as you claim you would have found that wii games can only be read with a few specific models of LG DVD drives.

Thanks for the help.

Is there a place that I can find the specific info on my wii to know which mod would be best? Im guessing there is no failure from installing this? I have read about the Wlip and I might go that route if it would work. I saw youtube vids about just purely burning a game and playing it.

I have been trying to sign on to blackcat games for a few days now.

I would just burn iso from mininova.com and use bitcommet for burning these games then.

Thanks alot for the info.

If you got one of the launch wii's then you are definatly have the first chipset and wiikey will work. If you want you can double check that here http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php and it should confirm that you have the DMS chipset. (and before you ask, your drive pins are not cut with a DMS wii so dont worry about that when you see it)

You can never say 'no failure' because anytime you open up the wii theres a chance of breaking something and that increases when you start soldering close to sensitive electronics.

The Wilp is kind of like an early version of the wii-clip and it has the same strengths and weaknesses. If you get one compatable with a DMS wii and solder the wiikey to the wilp properly then it should work.

So even with the WiiClip I will need the WiiKey? As in the WiiClip clips to the board and then the wiikey attaches to the end of the clip? Is that right? Then after that is when I can download the file and burn with my nero to a dvd r and play?

First you need to check what version is your Wii. There is a site to do this and it can be find easily. After finding out your wii version and if you have one of the new wii with the D2C chip set you can use the wii clip with the d2ckey/d2cpro/d2pro mod chip. D2CKey was reported to work with older version of wii too. Wii clip is NOT a mod chip. It's a device that replace the wires that you had to solder on the modchip and the wii drive. It connects the wii's chip and the modchip basically. You need to solder the mod chip on the wii clip but this is fairly simple. But most site sell them presoldered for some extra money. I owe a D2Ckey with the wii clip and it seen to work pretty fine on my d2c wii bought in 2008 about 2 month ago. One thing when you play back up. Try to keep it to your region. If you realloy want to play different region games you MUST use Wii Brickblocker to patch the iso before you burn it. I will gladly answer any question about Wii's modding with wiiclip or d2ckey/pro/d2pro modchips and burning/playing backups in you msg me.

You're awesome thanks.

I have a Wii from Thanksgiving 2006. I was lucky and got it on black friday.

I plan to wiiclip it to a wiikey in order to not void my warranty that I still have through best buy.

I have nero 8, so I think I am fine there.

Other than mininova what is another good or even better source for download? While playing a burnt game is there any lag or any differences than a normal store bought game. Will it still have the wifi abilities as well.

Thanks again.

I suggest using ImgBurn instead and burn the .isos at 4X speed using high quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Make sure the max speed on the discs are 8X.

I personally use Blackcats-Games. Been a member for 70 weeks and it's really the best site for any game you want.

Lag depends on the media that you use. If you use poor quality media then you will experience some lag or Disc Read Errors. You can still play over Wi-Fi with backups.
