I have a Wii with the 3.1U firmware. My modchip is the wiikey w/1.9g update. I recently procured Okami and Mario Kart, both being US NTSC versions. They both ask to update my system, which I have not let them do yet. Will I have any problems doing this?
Would I be better off just first updating my Wii to the latest 3.2U firmware, and then trying to play the games? If there is a thread dedicated to the most recent 3.2U firmware, and its effects on the Wii console, could someone please provide a link to said thread? Thank you in advance.
I updated my wii when i first bought it cuz it asked me to and Brawl also asked for updated. I did all the updates. Mario kart Us version didn't ask me for update when i play it. 3.2U has the IS370 thing but it hasn't been activated by nintendo yet. IS370 will stop you from using custom stuff and homebrews for example (DVD5 version of brawl, and different region games, freeloaders, regionfree loader, etc..) It will still allow you to play unmodified back up of games from your region however. But most of the mod chips out there are updatable so if IS370 activate i belive the mod chip makers will make update to the chip in time to fix the problem.
as far as update wise, it should be fine as long as the game and the patch is from the same region, it also depends which firmware u have already. in my case, i updated to 3.2J from 3.1J from the internet but still missing the 3.1J_V2 firmware to play mario kart and ssbb, i just got a jap version and update and now i can play with the ntsc-u and pal versions.
Just an update on my situation. I installed 3.2U from Wiiconnect. That went well. I then installed the update from the Mario Kart disc. That went perfectly as well. Trying to play Mario Kart though, I keep getting disc read errors before I even get to the title screen. Ejecting the disc and re-inserting it doesn't solve the problem.
I had the same problem with Mario Galaxy though, so I am guessing that it is a problem with my burner. I will ask my brother to burn me a copy and see if his works better. Power sliding Wii style awaits!
