samsung ms28 firmware trouble

Sorry if I have started this thread in the wrong place, but this is my first attempt at using this forum after joining! I have just flashed my ms28 using iprep to prepare the usb memstick using the samsung 1.4 firmware.All options selected correctly as per textbooks instructions. I have also downloaded mtkflash edited and over written the 2 usb mem stick files into the correct directory.I followed the textbook guide but during the dos process I never get the xtreme option in the menu to appear. However I get 2 options one is IDE the other via6421 just after answering yes after boot up. I tryed the via6421 option 2 in the menu for obvious reasons then using the 10 sec trick and all appeared to go well. I then repeated the process and again the firmware flashed succesfully. I reconnect the 360 to tv and when I tryed a bsckup copied game I get the error "you need a hdd to use xbox games bla bla bla". It will play originals still and play backup dvd films and original copy dvd films. I am left puzzled. mtkflash was edited and all files are correct and up to date. I also have tryed all ports on the 6421 card. The only one that seems to work is the internal backend one and only then will it pickup if I connect an ide cdrom to the sata card itself. all other drives are disconnected when booting from usb. My only thought is that maybe I flashed the cdrom drive but this still appears to be functioning correctly. If anybody can help I would be extremely greatful. Discussion websites like this one totally rock!!

insert the USB stick back into you computer

Open Iprep again
Select the 1.4 ixtreme Samsung firmware
Check-Patch MTKFlash
Select the VIA VT6421 controller from the dropdown box
Select the destination Or the USB Drive
Check- Format/Make Device Bootable

restart your Computer Boot the USB Drive
turn on the 360 when iprep starts
Hit yes to Accept the trems
the Type Dsam 1234567 12345
Hit any key to continue
it should bring up a list of devices one of them should say Xtreme
after the list shows up turn the 360 off
Select the Xtreme Device
Then Turn The 360 on and it should dump the drive to the thumb drive
*Sit Back and Watch*
After completed shut it all down put the xbox together and test it

thanks for response but I have all ready done all what you suggested but i get no option for extreme. I only get option 1 IDE controller,option 2 VIA 6421. I tryed option 2 and then powered xbox360 on all appeared to go well with no errors with the dumped firmware and the flashed firmware but i fear maybe I have flashed another piece of hardware. However PC still fully functions. As explained above I disconnected all hard drives and cdroms/dvd's etc but no options would appear so i then attached my cdrom to the sata ide controller port and used the internal sata port on the PCI card and then I got the 2 options as shown above. Just one other small thing possibly worth mentioning are the SATA 6421 card still functions correctly and displays correctly from within xp pro device manager. I have also insured raid is disabled. I have the two flash files created. Can I see if these are correct or not?

Are U using the SATA port facing the front of the computer ?
that could be a reason why it aint showing up

I have tryed all 3 sata ports. Only one will show the two options option 1. ide option 2. Sata 6421
I have tryed using hexedit to look at both the .bin files produced on the usb boot drive and they are both identical. It seems tbat the firmware hasn't changed as both the ofw and cfw files look like cfw. I re-downloaded the samsung 1.4 cfw files and use iprep to produce the 8* speed sammy usb boot mem stick. I also opened this .bin file in hexedit and again this is identical to the ofw and cfw. Thanks for all the response I will take a look at the link provided above and give this a try.

Thanks to all that helped me. I finally got the 360 sorted out. In the end I used a different pc, installed my sata pci 6421 and tryed the iprep usb boot drive and all went swimmingly! Turns out my pc just wouldn't pick up iextreme asn option on dos bootup. Cheers for all the useful info though. You guys are tops. Take care all that helped!
